The Great Smoky Mountains!! Chris and I went on a little weekend getaway last weekend to the Smoky Mountains. It was about a 9 hour drive - we stopped in Metropolis on the way out - did you know it's the home of Superman? When we finally got to the mountains on Friday night, they had just gotten a few inches of fresh snow on the ground, so getting up to our cabin was rough. Then when we DID get to our cabin, there was a truck parked in the driveway. Wha? Someone had left it there because I guess they ran out of gas. We ended up parking in the driveway across the street, hoping no one would need to park there overnight. Lucky there WAS a driveway close by because there was no way I would feel comfortable leaving our car on the slippery icy one land road by our driveway. So then we got to lug up all our bags across the street and up the slippery driveway. Fun so far! Saturday we went into the town (Gatlinburg) and shopped a bunch and ate at a cute little Mexican restaurant. Saturday night we played pool in our cabin and watched some Olympics. Our hot tub was not ready to go on Saturday morning, so the maintenance guy had to get it ready on Saturday. By Saturday night it still was only about 60 degrees, so we spent some serious time heating water on the stove and throwing it in the hot tub. We got it up to 100 degrees with a little elbow grease and a few hours. Then we jumped in and it was great! We ended up leaving a day early (on Sunday) in order to beat another snowstorm that was on it's way. We plan on going back in the fall when the weather is better and getting to hike in the park. Woot!
